Websol Energy System Limited has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Linton Crystal Technologies to investigate the production of photovoltaic (PV) ingots and wafers in India. The partnership seeks to enhance local solar production capabilities and minimize reliance on imported upstream PV parts.
The MoU sets forth a framework where Linton will supply technical knowledge, equipment, and training, whereas Websol Energy will assess the practicality of setting up ingot and wafer manufacturing facilities in India. These elements create the essential upstream foundation for solar cells and modules, representing a possible move toward backward integration for Websol.

Websol Energy presently runs a 1,200 MW photovoltaic cell facility and has a 550 MW module manufacturing capacity at its Falta SEZ site in West Bengal. The firm is also increasing its downstream production with an extra 4 GW solar cell and module line set for 2027–2028 utilizing TOPCon technology.
Industry analysts observe that the collaboration supports India’s wider initiative for localization in solar production and energy independence. As ingot and wafer imports have traditionally ruled the local market, this shift might lessen reliance on overseas suppliers while improving supply-chain robustness.
Websol Energy's partnership with Linton arises from a growing demand for solar modules in India, fueled by rooftop installations, utility-scale projects, and government-backed solar programs.
