Ashok Leyland, the flagship company of the Hinduja Group, is set to begin electric bus production at its new plant in Lucknow within two months, marking a major step forward in India’s EV manufacturing landscape. The facility, built on the premises of the former Scooters India site, was completed in a record 18 months and is poised to roll out its first electric bus by August 2025.
Initially, the plant will have a production capacity of 2,500 e-buses annually, with a planned scale-up to 5,000 units per year. This move is in line with Ashok Leyland’s broader push to electrify public transportation and strengthen its position in the commercial EV sector.
