At order to increase output, Mukand Sumi Special Steel Ltd (MSSSL) intends to build a greenfield integrated steelmaking facility at Kanakapura, Koppal, Karnataka, for Rs 2,345 crore. By increasing MSSSL's production potential to 700,000 tonnes annually, the joint venture between Japan's Sumitomo Corporation and India's Bajaj Group hopes to establish MSSSL as one of India's top producers of special steel.
The demand for premium special steel in industries like engineering and automotives has increased as a result of India's infrastructure development and "Atma Nirbhar Bharat" initiatives. MSSSL was established in 2018 and provides 350,000 tonnes of special steel products annually, mostly to the automotive and engineering sectors. The company prioritizes quality and collaborates with both domestic and international producers.
In response to the increasing demand, MSSSL has invested in state-of-the-art technologies, a Jumbo bloom caster, and modern rolling facilities to enable the production of critical grades for powertrains, railroads, and bearings.
