India’s renewable energy sector is seeing major developments across wind power, clean hydrogen, investments, and industry leadership.
Suzlon Energy has strengthened its partnership with Tata Power through a new 400 MW wind power order.
At the same time, Karnataka has cleared investment proposals worth nearly Rs 29,679 crore across several sectors, including renewable energy. Suzlon has also appointed Manjari Upadhye to lead its renewable energy asset management business.
However, weak demand for green hydrogen has pushed Larsen & Toubro to delay its planned manufacturing expansion. These developments highlight strong investment activity while also showing the challenges facing emerging clean energy segments in India.
Karnataka has approved investment proposals worth Rs 29,679.20 crore across renewable energy, manufacturing, and other sectors. The projects are expected to create around 66,360 jobs across the state. The approvals came during the 68th State High Level Clearance Committee meeting. D K Shivakumar, Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka, chaired the meeting and reviewed the investment proposals.
The approvals strengthen Karnataka’s position as an important destination for clean energy investments. Furthermore, the state is linking renewable energy growth with manufacturing and wider industrial development. D K Shivakumar also directed officials to strengthen project checks before licenses are granted. The Finance Department has been asked to form a dedicated audit team.
Suzlon Energy has appointed Manjari Upadhye as President – Renewable Energy Asset Management Services. She joined the company on September 4, 2026, as part of its senior management team. Upadhye will report directly to the Group Chief Executive Officer of Suzlon. Her appointment supports Suzlon’s plan to expand its renewable energy asset management business.
Upadhye joined Suzlon from the Mahindra & Mahindra Auto Division, where she worked on customer-focused business operations. Her earlier experience includes Welspun, Amazon, Danone, Mondelez, PepsiCo, and Colgate-Palmolive. She has also held senior leadership responsibilities during her career. At Suzlon, her experience is expected to support customer-focused asset management services.

Larsen & Toubro has postponed its plan to expand electrolyzer manufacturing capacity to 1 GW. The company cited weaker-than-expected demand for green hydrogen as the main reason. L&T Electrolysers currently has 400 MW of manufacturing capacity at Hazira in Gujarat. The company had planned to invest Rs 450-550 crore to reach 1 GW by March 2027.
L&T said its current production setup is enough to meet present domestic demand. At the same time, the company remains ready to increase production when more projects are announced. Derek Shah said the facility could reach 1 GW within 12 to 18 months if demand improves. This shows that clean energy investment remains closely linked to actual project demand.
The latest developments present a mixed picture for India’s renewable energy sector. Wind energy continues to see strong orders, while states are approving large clean energy investments. Suzlon’s leadership appointment also shows growing attention toward long-term asset management. However, L&T’s delayed hydrogen expansion highlights the challenges facing newer clean energy segments. Overall, the renewable energy industry remains on a growth path, but future expansion will depend on demand, investment, and project execution.
