The latest Q2 FY27 results reveal a mixed performance across India's energy, steel, automotive, renewable energy, logistics, and quick-commerce sectors.
While some companies reported sharp increases in profit, others faced pressure on earnings despite higher revenue. Adani Power recorded a strong rise in profitability amid growing electricity demand, while JSW Steel posted a three-fold jump in net profit.
Tata Motors returned to quarterly profitability, and Mahindra Logistics improved both revenue and earnings. However, HPCL and Waaree Renewable Technologies reported lower quarterly profits. Swiggy's quick-commerce business also continued to face profitability challenges.
Together, these results offer a snapshot of business growth, operating costs, and the challenges facing corporate India.
Adani Power reported a sharp rise in consolidated net profit for the September quarter of FY27. Its profit after tax increased 141.5 percent year-over-year to Rs 7,019 crore, compared with Rs 2,906 crore in the corresponding quarter last year. Higher electricity demand, increased power sales, and improved tariff realization supported the company's performance. However, the reported profit also benefited from one-time recognition of prior-period revenue.
Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) reported consolidated net profit of Rs 3,625.22 crore in Q2 FY27, down approximately 6 percent from Rs 3,859 crore in the year-ago quarter. Revenue from operations increased to around Rs 1.39 lakh crore, supported by the company's refining and marketing operations. However, pressure on marketing margins and volatile crude oil prices affected profitability. The company's first-half performance also reflected significant earnings pressure.

Swiggy saw renewed growth momentum in its quick-commerce business, Instamart, according to Moneycontrol's Q2 FY27 analysis. However, the improvement has not removed concerns about profitability. The company faces the challenge of converting growth in quick-commerce orders into sustainable earnings while improving margins in its food-delivery business. Instamart's performance remains an important factor in assessing Swiggy's longer-term financial outlook.
JSW Steel delivered one of the strongest earnings performances among the companies covered in this report. Its consolidated net profit rose 225.3 percent year-over-year to Rs 5,279 crore in Q2 FY27. Revenue growth, higher operating earnings, and record production and sales supported the performance. The company also approved a major capacity expansion at its Sambalpur facility in Odisha, signaling plans to strengthen its position as domestic steel demand grows.
Waaree Renewable Technologies reported a 36.53 percent increase in revenue from operations to Rs 1,057.84 crore in Q2 FY27. However, its profit after tax declined 29.98 percent to Rs 81.48 crore. The gap between revenue growth and profit performance highlights the effect of acquisition-related financing costs and the integration of businesses with different margin structures. Its expanding order book and presence in transmission, distribution, and energy storage offer opportunities for future growth.
Tata Motors returned to profitability in Q2 FY27, reporting consolidated net profit of Rs 1,257 crore against a net loss of Rs 867 crore in the corresponding quarter last year. Revenue from operations rose 36.3 percent to Rs 25,338 crore. A 42 percent increase in wholesale volumes supported the performance, although higher input costs continued to put pressure on the business. The company also reported stronger cash generation during the quarter.

Mahindra Logistics reported consolidated revenue of Rs 2,095 crore in Q2 FY27, up 24 percent year-over-year. Profitability also improved, with the company reporting profit after tax of Rs 26.2 crore against a loss in the year-ago quarter. Higher contract logistics volumes, growth in express services, and better operating margins supported the results. Its express business also recorded its first EBITDA-positive quarter since acquisition.
The Q2 FY27 results show that revenue growth did not always translate into higher profits across India's major industries. Adani Power and JSW Steel reported strong profit growth, while Tata Motors returned to profitability and Mahindra Logistics improved its earnings.
In contrast, HPCL and Waaree Renewable Technologies faced profit declines despite reporting higher revenue, while Swiggy continued to navigate quick-commerce profitability challenges. The broader picture from these Q2 FY27 results is that companies are pursuing growth while managing rising costs, margins, and expansion investments. Their ability to turn higher sales into sustainable profits will remain an important factor in assessing business performance in the coming quarters.
