India has moved to strengthen its battlefield readiness with a Rs 975 crore TRAWL assemblies deal, aimed at improving the mobility and safety of its armored fleet.
The Ministry of Defence confirmed the procurement of these systems for the Indian Army’s T-72 and T-90 tanks, ensuring they can operate effectively in mine-infested zones.
The TRAWL assemblies deal has been awarded to Bharat Earth Movers Limited and Electro Pneumatics and Hydraulics India.
These assemblies are specialized mine-clearing attachments mounted on tanks, designed to detect and neutralize landmines while creating safe pathways for advancing troops and vehicles. This capability is critical in combat situations where minefields can slow down or halt operations.

The acquisition falls under the “Buy (Indian–IDDM)” category, reinforcing the government’s focus on indigenous defense manufacturing. Developed with support from the Defence Research and Development Organisation, the system reflects India’s push to build and deploy homegrown military technology.
Officials noted that integrating these systems will enhance operational efficiency by enabling faster and safer movement of armored units during offensive missions. The ability to breach minefields without delays gives the Army a strategic advantage, especially in high-risk combat scenarios.
Beyond military gains, the deal is expected to benefit domestic industry by driving production and supporting local supply chains, including small and medium enterprises. This aligns with broader national goals of boosting self-reliance in defense.
With this investment, India continues to modernize its armored capabilities while reducing dependence on foreign systems. The addition of TRAWL assemblies is set to improve both survivability and mission success for frontline tank operations.
