Apollo Micro Systems has secured a major boost to its defense ambitions after receiving a government licence to manufacture missiles, torpedoes, and a wide range of munitions.
The approval, granted by India’s Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, marks a significant step for the company as it moves deeper into full-scale weapons production.
The Apollo Micro Systems licence to manufacture missiles is a lifetime authorization, allowing the company to design, develop, and produce critical defense equipment without renewal concerns.
The scope of the licence goes far beyond a single category. It covers anti-tank guided missiles, rockets, aerial bombs, underwater mines, torpedoes, and even advanced systems like loitering munitions and countermeasure devices such as flares and decoys.

Manufacturing will be carried out at the company’s facilities in Hyderabad, including its units in Hardware Park and IDA Mallapur. Its subsidiary, IDL Explosives, will support operations by supplying key materials like propellants, explosives, and detonators, strengthening the company’s ability to handle end-to-end production.
This development signals a clear shift in the company’s business model. Until now, Apollo Micro Systems was primarily known for supplying electronic subsystems and components. With the Apollo Micro Systems licence to manufacture missiles, it can now build complete weapon systems, expanding both its market reach and revenue potential.
The announcement triggered strong investor interest, with the company’s stock seeing a sharp rise following the news. The move also aligns with India’s broader push toward defense self-reliance, reducing imports while encouraging domestic manufacturing and exports. Apollo Micro Systems is expected to target both the Indian armed forces and global markets as it scales up production.
