ReNew Energy Global has entered into a long term contract with Google to construct a 150 MW solar site in Rajasthan, India. The plant will become operational in 2026 and will have an approximate capacity of 425,000 MWh of clean electricity annually, which is sufficient to serve over 360,000 houses.
The agreement will see Google purchase the energy credits of ReNew including carbon credits. This is a long term acquisition that is crucial to fund the project and enable Google to cut down its emissions.
The transaction contributes to the overall commercial and industrial total projects of ReNew, which is now standing at 2.7 GW. This will ensure that ReNew is a major provider of clean corporate energy in India. The expansion indicates that numerous corporate entities in the world, particularly large U.S. technology companies, are keen on green energy to reduce their carbon imprint.
