In a significant step to accelerate the introduction of renewable energy sources in Goa, NTPC Renewable Energy Ltd (NTPC REL) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Goa Energy Development Agency (GEDA).
This agreement was signed in the presence of Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, it represents Goa’s effective commitment towards renewable and cleaner energy technologies and systems.
The collaboration will aim to investigate and implement large-scale solar and hybrid renewable energy projects possibly involving battery energy storage systems (BESS). This is a significant contribution to Goa’s sustainability commitments and to India’s national target of 500 GW non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030.

The agreement covered by GEDA's Managing Director Gauresh Ashok Pilgaonkar and NTPC REL's Chief Financial Officer Pushpendra Tyagi highlights the larger pivot towards establishing sustainable green energy infrastructure, energy efficient grid management and carbon-free energy generation. The projects are expected to improve grid security, carbon emissions, and generate new initiatives for local economic development and job creation.
NTPC REL, a wholly owned subsidiary of NTPC Green Energy Ltd, continues to expand its footprint across India’s renewable sector, and this collaboration with Goa sets the tone for state-led innovation in energy transition. With policy backing and technical expertise, Goa is positioning itself as a model for clean energy integration, paving the way for more such public-private collaborations in the sector.
