NTPC Group, a government-owned power generation company, has announced the successful completion of trial operations of the third unit of its North Karanpura Super Thermal Power Project (STPP) in Jharkhand. The newly operational unit is the 660 MW unit (Unit-3) of the 3x660 MW coal-based project located in the Chatra district. The successful completion of Unit-3 is now part of NTPC's installed capacity.
In a filing to the stock exchanges on Thursday, NTPC said that unit-3 completion increased NTPC's standalone installed capacity to 60266 MW and total group capacity to 81368 MW. The near-completion of this new milestone improves NTPC's position as the country's largest power generation company under the Ministry of Power.

The North Karanpura STPP is an important infrastructure project to meet the increasing electricity demand of the region. Since it is designed as a coal-fired energy facility, it usually plays a key role in establishing India's base load power, especially in the eastern and northern parts of the country.
This commissioning also supports NTPC's vision to increase its generation portfolio and support India's energy security.
