
India's India's Chip Push received a major boost as Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for a INR 2,500 crore semiconductor facility in Visakhapatnam.

It is also the first semiconductor project in Andhra Pradesh approved under the India Semiconductor Mission. The new facility is expected to strengthen electronics manufacturing while creating thousands of jobs.
The project will be developed by ASIP Technologies. It will focus on OSAT operations, which include chip packaging and testing. The plant will have an annual production capacity of 96 million chips. It will support industries such as artificial intelligence, high-performance computing, data centers, automotive electronics, and high-speed communication.
The Visakhapatnam facility will play an important role in reducing India's dependence on imported semiconductor packaging services. It will strengthen the country's semiconductor supply chain and improve local manufacturing capabilities.
The company plans to invest INR 2,500 crore in the project. Once operational, the facility is expected to create around 2,600 direct and indirect jobs. It will also attract supporting industries to the region.
