After announcing GPT-5-enabled Smart Mode for Copilot yesterday, Microsoft is excited to launch Copilot 3D, an exciting new capability that can convert standard 2D images into 3D models. Copilot 3D is a part of Copilot Labs, and it is designed to make 3D creation fast, easy, and natural, freeing users from the hurdles of traditional 3D software.
Copilot 3D is currently free for select users, until further notice, through login via a Microsoft or Google account. Microsoft also recommended that users access Copilot 3D via a desktop browser, as mobile browsers may have issues. To give it a try, user need to go to Copilot.com, open the sidebar, and select Labs, then press Try now under Copilot 3D.
The feature will support images which are either PNG or JPG format at a maximum size of 10MB, with future plans for more format and size possibilities. Once a user uploads the image, they will go through the process of creating a model which will take anywhere from a few seconds to a minute to complete.

All the generated 3D models will be in GLB which works for most 3D viewers, tools and game engines. The models can also be exported to Augmented Reality (AR) apps. All creations will be hosted for 28 days, they can access their creations on the My Creations page.
Microsoft recommends that you upload original images and avoid images with humans, as violations may result in a suspension of your account. While your creations will not be used to train any AI models, illegal content is auto-blocked.
With Copilot 3D, Microsoft is taking its AI-powered creative suite even further for creators, educators, and hobbyists.
