The 89th General Meeting of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) will be held by India in New Delhi from 15th to 19th September. It is a gathering of more than 2000 experts from over 100 countries who will review the international electrotechnical standards.
The event will be first-run by Food and Consumer Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi at Bharat Mandapam, and Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal launching the IEC General Meeting Exhibition. According to the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), this is the fourth time India is hosting the conference, after the three previous editions in 1960, 1997, and 2013.
The conference will include the setting of global standards that would be the basis of sustainable, all-electric, and connected world. Over 150 Technical/Management Committee meetings will deal with next-generation technologies, while various sessions will examine issues like artificial intelligence, e-mobility, and inclusivity in standardization.
Moreover, India will function as the Global Secretariat for Standardisation in the Area of Low Voltage Direct Current (LVDC), a vital area for clean energy solutions. Vimal Mahendru, the IEC Vice President, underlined India’s leadership role in LVDC, stating the significance of queing up for sustainable technologies from there.

As one of the most significant events ever in the history of India’s electric power sector, its accompanying exhibition will showcase 75 exhibitors presenting innovations in smart lighting, e-mobility, electronics, and IT manufacturing. The public with free registration can attend it, and it will be a global networking platform for startups.
The meeting with 93 young professionals from the IEC’s global programme will be the next generation of technology leaders gearing up to their first experience of a truly international forum.
