India’s automotive export ecosystem is entering a transformative phase as Motherson, through joint venture Samvardhana Motherson Hamakyorex Engineered Logistics (SAMRX), has signed an agreement with Dighi Port (DPL), a subsidiary of Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ), to build a dedicated auto‐export facility at Dighi Port in Maharashtra.
The move directly aligns with India’s expanding vehicle manufacturing corridor across the Mumbai–Pune auto belt, which has seen sustained export momentum from passenger vehicle, EV, and commercial vehicle OEMs. The proposed development will position Dighi Port as a new strategic RoRo (roll‐on/roll‐off) automobile export terminal, adding critical capacity to India’s outbound automotive logistics and reducing reliance on traditional Western ports.

The project is also expected to strengthen India’s competitive edge across global automotive supply chains, especially under national initiatives such as Make in India and Aatmanirbhar Bharat. With APSEZ already operating 15 key ports, the addition of a specialized automotive gateway gives India an integrated logistics corridor for seamless vehicle export and import activities.
Ashwani Gupta, CEO & Whole-time Director, Adani Ports and SEZ, said, "Our partnership with Motherson at Dighi Port marks a significant step toward redefining automotive logistics in India. By combining APSEZ's integrated infrastructure capabilities with Motherson's expertise, we are creating a seamless, resilient network for vehicle movement across the country. This RoRo terminal will not only accelerate trade and enhance supply chain efficiency but also deliver long-term value to our customers and the communities we serve".
This partnership is a strategically timed investment, coinciding with rising global vehicle demand and India’s push to improve port infrastructure, accelerate export readiness, and expand its footprint across emerging automotive markets in Asia, Europe, and the Middle East.
