India and Sweden have agreed to further strengthen their partnership in key areas such as trade cooperation, defence collaboration, and innovation partnership after holding the 8th round of Foreign Office Consultations (FOC) in New Delhi.
The meeting was co-chaired by India’s Secretary (West) Sibi George and Sweden’s State Secretary for Foreign Affairs Dag Hartelius. Both sides reviewed their ongoing collaboration and discussed ways to expand cooperation across sectors including foreign investment, security cooperation, sustainability initiatives, and people-to-people ties.
Officials highlighted that India-Sweden relations have grown steadily in recent years, supported by strong business connections, research partnerships, and shared priorities like climate action and technology development. The discussions also reflected a mutual interest in working more closely on emerging technologies and green solutions.
A major focus of the talks was the India–European Union Free Trade Agreement (FTA). Both countries see this as an important step that could boost bilateral trade, economic growth, and create new opportunities for companies and innovation-driven industries.
