According to data provided by the National Statistics Office (NSO) on Monday, India's industrial production growth slowed to 1.5% in June 2025, the lowest level in ten months. According to PTI, the slowdown was caused by poorer performance in the mining and electricity industries, which were impacted by the monsoon's early arrival.
In June 2024, the Index of Industrial Production (IIP), which measures manufacturing output, increased by 4.9%. August 2024, when output growth was about flat, was the last low. According to NSO data, mining production decreased by 8.7% in June 2025 after increasing by 10.3% in the same month the previous year. Electricity generation decreased by 2.6% after increasing by 8.6% in the previous year. In June 2025, manufacturing output, which makes up a sizable portion of the IIP, increased by 3.9%, which was somewhat higher than the 3.5% growth observed in June 2024.
Industrial output increased by 2% during the April–June period of FY26, as opposed to 5.4% during the same time in the prior fiscal year. Additionally, the NSO updated its May 2025 prediction, raising the reported growth from 1.2% to 1.9%.
