India’s aerospace dream received a major push after GE Aerospace announced a fresh investment of INR 100 crore to expand its manufacturing facility in Pune.
The latest move highlights GE Aerospace’s growing confidence in India’s aviation and defense manufacturing sector. With this investment, the company aims to strengthen production capacity for critical jet engine components while supporting the country’s “Make in India” initiative.
The Pune facility has become one of GE Aerospace’s important global manufacturing centers, producing precision-engineered parts for some of the world’s most advanced aircraft engines. The new investment comes at a time when India’s aerospace industry is rapidly expanding due to rising air travel demand, defense modernization, and global supply-chain diversification.
The INR 100 crore investment will be used to add advanced machinery, modern inspection systems, precision tooling, and upgraded infrastructure at the Pune plant. GE Aerospace said the expansion will help improve manufacturing efficiency and boost production capabilities for both commercial and military aviation programs.
Vishwajit Singh, Managing Director of GE Aerospace Pune manufacturing facility, said the investment underlines the company's commitment to manufacturing in India. "We are working to have good skill development, which will be a resource for the aerospace industry in India," he said.

Over the last two years, the company has already invested nearly INR 410 crore in the Pune facility. With the latest announcement, GE Aerospace’s total investment in the site has crossed INR 510 crore within three years. The company’s continued focus on India signals the country’s growing importance in the global aerospace manufacturing ecosystem.
The Pune manufacturing facility plays a crucial role in producing high-precision parts for several globally recognized jet engine programs, including GE90, GEnx, GE9X, and CFM LEAP engines. These engines power some of the world’s leading commercial aircraft fleets and are widely used by international airlines.
GE Aerospace plans to introduce advanced welding technologies and modern inspection systems to improve quality standards and increase output. The company is also focusing on expanding local manufacturing capabilities for critical aerospace components that require highly specialized engineering processes.
Industry experts believe the expansion reflects a larger trend where global aerospace companies are increasingly turning to India for precision manufacturing and engineering support. Rising operational costs in western markets, combined with India’s skilled workforce and improving industrial infrastructure, are making the country an attractive destination for aerospace investments.
The Pune facility is supported by a large domestic supplier network. GE Aerospace currently works with more than 300 local suppliers connected to the Pune operations, while its broader India supply chain includes over 2,200 suppliers across different sectors. This network helps strengthen India’s manufacturing ecosystem and creates opportunities for small and medium engineering firms.
The company has also invested heavily in workforce development. Since 2015, GE Aerospace has reportedly trained more than 5,000 production associates in advanced manufacturing technologies and aerospace engineering practices. This focus on skill development is expected to support India’s long-term ambition of becoming a global aerospace manufacturing hub.
The latest investment comes as India’s aerospace and defense sector witnesses strong momentum from both domestic and international companies. Several global aviation giants, including Safran, Rolls-Royce, and Airbus, have either announced new partnerships or expanded operations in India over the past few years.
India’s growing aviation market is another major factor driving investments. The country is expected to become one of the world’s largest air passenger markets in the coming years. Airlines are placing record aircraft orders, creating massive demand for aircraft engines, components, maintenance services, and aerospace infrastructure.
Defense manufacturing is also playing a major role in the sector’s expansion. The Indian government has been encouraging local production of military equipment and aircraft systems under the “Make in India” and “Atmanirbhar Bharat” initiatives. This policy push has encouraged multinational aerospace firms to deepen their manufacturing presence in the country.
Analysts believe GE Aerospace’s Pune expansion is more than just a factory upgrade. It represents India’s increasing role in global aviation supply chains and advanced engineering production. The investment is expected to generate employment opportunities, improve technical capabilities, and strengthen India’s position in high-value manufacturing.
As competition grows in the global aerospace market, companies are looking for reliable and scalable manufacturing destinations. GE Aerospace’s continued investment in Pune sends a strong signal that India is emerging as a strategic center for the future of aerospace manufacturing and innovation.
GE Aerospace is one of the world’s leading aerospace and aviation technology companies, specializing in aircraft engines, avionics, and defense systems.
