Hind Rectifiers Limited (HIRECT) has begun commercial production of specialized copper conductors at its Sinnar facility, marking a major milestone in its backward integration plan. The new unit strengthens supply chain control and improves operational efficiency, reinforcing the company’s position in the power electronics and railway traction equipment industry.
The new production line will manufacture Continuously Transposed Conductors (CTC), Enamelled Paper Insulated Copper Conductors (EPICC), and Paper Insulated Copper Conductors (PICC) — vital components for traction transformer manufacturing.
The project, with an investment of about ₹56 crore funded through a mix of term loans and internal accruals, is set to reduce dependency on external suppliers, prevent raw material shortages, and ensure on-time transformer deliveries, especially for the Indian Railways. It will also help lower production costs and improve profit margins, strengthening Hirect’s overall competitiveness.

These conductors are in high demand, both domestically and internationally, and this initiative positions us to cater not only to our internal transformer needs but also to the wider transformer industry. This development will drive revenue growth, improve margins, and deliver long-term value to our customers and shareholders.”
Founded in 1958 in collaboration with Westinghouse Brake & Signal, UK, Hirect has grown into a major Indian engineering and manufacturing company. It operates modern facilities in Nashik and Bhandup, with a workforce of about 950 employees. The company produces traction systems, converters, transformers, rectifiers, motors, and control electronics for sectors including railways, defence, and power, exporting to more than 30 countries.
