Airbus SE has revealed intentions to notably increase its yearly procurement from India, targeting $2 billion by the decade’s conclusion. This signifies an almost 43% rise from present levels and highlights India's growing position in the global aerospace supply network.
In an address to reporters in New Delhi, Remi Maillard, President and Managing Director of Airbus India and South Asia, mentioned that the company is poised to achieve the $2 billion goal "well before 2030." The initiative is in line with Airbus's overall plan to enhance its involvement in India's expanding aviation sector.
India's internal aviation industry has now become the third biggest globally, positioning it as an important market for aircraft manufacturers. Airbus had earlier estimated that India would need more than 2,200 new airplanes in the coming twenty years. Indian airlines now have one of the largest order backlogs globally, with nearly 1,800 planes on order from Airbus and Boeing.
In spite of the intricate regulatory and procedural environment, Airbus has succeeded in greatly increasing its sourcing from India. Maillard highlighted that the speed of growth has been impressive considering the approvals and procedures required.
Airbus is a key provider for IndiGo and Air India, two of the largest airline operators in India. The firm’s choice to boost procurement levels underscores its trust in India's industrial foundation and its prospects as a lasting partner.
