Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched and laid the groundwork for a number of development projects worth about Rs 5,650 crore on Wednesday in an important step to strengthen Tamil Nadu's infrastructure and energy landscapes.
The state's youthful population will benefit from countless job prospects due to these measures, which will be an important milestone in its path to development.
Besides that, the Prime Minister formally inaugurated the Nagercoil-Charlapalli and Podanur (Coimbatore)-Dhanbad Amrit Bharat Express trains.

These trains would enhance connections between Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Karnataka, and eastern India as well, with both the Rameswaram-Mangaluru and Tirunelveli-Mangaluru Express services. A new train service between Mayiladuthurai, Thiruvarur, and Karaikkudi will also enhance peripheral mobility.
In a notable development in the petroleum sector, Modi laid the foundation for Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited’s City gas distribution network in Nilgiris and Erode districts. This Rs 3,680 crore project aims to provide PNG connections to over 8.8 lakh households, supply gas to more than 200 commercial establishments, and establish over 201 CNG stations, significantly boosting the region’s clean energy capabilities.
During the inauguration, the Prime Minister emphasized the long-term significance of these projects: “It’s related to projects worth Rs 5600 crore. These projects are about infrastructure, for clean energy, petroleum-related manufacturing, highways, railways and rural roads. They will boost energy access, connectivity and create thousands of jobs for the youth of Tamil Nadu."
