Apple's CEO Tim Cook mentioned that the majority of iPhones sold in the US during the last quarter, Q2, were produced in India, even though President Donald Trump has continually criticized Apple's manufacturing move.
Following Apple’s quarterly results on July 31, Cook mentioned that India has now emerged as the primary center for iPhone production for the US market, whereas China is concentrating more on areas outside the US. "Regarding the country of origin, it remains unchanged from what I mentioned last quarter." "There hasn't been any alteration to that; the overwhelming majority of iPhones sold in the US, or rather a majority, have their country of origin as India," Tim Cook informed analysts.
For other Apple products like MacBooks, iPads, and Apple Watches, Vietnam has become the primary manufacturing base for US demand. “The products for other international countries, the vast majority of them are coming from China,” the Apple CEO stated. Trump said, “I had a little problem with Tim Cook, I said to him, my friend, I am treating you very good, but now I hear you are building all over India. I don’t want you building in India.” Last week, Trump announced a 25% tariff on imports from India.
