Tamil Nadu is quickly becoming a key player in Apple’s global electronics supply chain. More and more component manufacturers are setting up shop in the state, attracted by its excellent infrastructure, skilled workforce, and effective governance, as highlighted by T. R. B. Rajaa, the Minister for Industries, Investment Promotion, and Commerce.
To strengthen its position even further, the state government rolled out the Tamil Nadu Electronics Components Manufacturing Scheme in April. This initiative offers state-level incentives that align with those provided under the Centre’s Electronics Component Manufacturing Scheme. The goal is to attract Rs 30,000 crore in investments and create 60,000 new jobs.
Rajaa stated, “When I took over in 2023, my top priority was to bring more of the Apple ecosystem to Tamil Nadu. Now, it’s flipped—Apple suppliers are reaching out to us because the ‘Brand Tamil Nadu’ has gained international recognition.”

Apple’s major suppliers, including Foxconn, Pegatron (Tata Electronics), Salcomp, Corning, Jabil, and ON Semiconductor, have set up operations in the Sriperumbudur-Oragadam-Kancheepuram corridor, Hosur, and Tiruchirapalli, all supported by special economic zones and government incentives.
In FY2025, Tamil Nadu accounted for 41.2% of India’s electronics exports, totaling $14.65 billion, with plans to ramp this up to $50 billion in the coming years. The new scheme is focused on localizing the production of high-value components like camera and display modules, sensors, HDI/Flexi PCBs, and Li-ion cells.
Rajaa pointed out that the state assesses investments not just by their size but by their strategic importance. “A Rs 100 crore high-impact investment holds more value than a Rs 10,000 crore generic one,” he remarked.
