Tata Power is setting up Odisha’s first policy-led GCC with an initial investment of Rs 54.31 crore. The center will develop digital solutions for the power and energy sector. It is expected to become fully operational within the next three months and create 110 high-skill jobs in the state.
The center is being established in Khordha district under the Odisha Global Capability Centre (GCC) Policy, which was unveiled last year. The policy aims to attract more than Rs 1,000 crore in investments across seven regional hubs, including Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Puri, Paradip, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, and Sambalpur.
A senior Tata Power executive said the investment would primarily cover information technology infrastructure, software licenses, office setup, and manpower. These resources will help the company build the technology and talent base needed to support its operations.
Tata Power plans to use the GCC to develop advanced digital solutions across the power and energy value chain. The center will work with technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), generative AI, and agentic AI.
These technologies will support several business functions, including:
The executive said the global energy sector is changing rapidly due to renewable energy integration, grid modernization, digitalization, and evolving customer expectations. AI, data analytics, automation, and cloud platforms are becoming important tools for improving efficiency and strengthening grid reliability.
The policy-led GCC will also explore emerging technologies such as knowledge graphs, blockchain, digital twins, and simulation systems. Their applications will span renewable energy, manufacturing, power grids, and pumped-hydro projects, covering both construction and operational needs.
Beyond internal operations, the center will support the development of digital products and services for external customers. This could create opportunities for Tata Power to commercialize technologies developed at the facility.

The center is expected to create 110 high-skill jobs, bringing together professionals from digital technology, engineering, and energy analytics. The planned workforce will include:
Tata Power also expects the facility to contribute to Odisha’s broader technology and innovation ecosystem. The company plans to collaborate with startups, universities, and technology partners to support innovation, knowledge development, and talent creation.
The policy-led GCC comes as Odisha seeks to expand its industrial base beyond metals, mining, and manufacturing. The state is looking to attract knowledge-intensive businesses and technology-enabled services to strengthen its economic capabilities.
The facility is expected to support growth in digital engineering, energy technology, and advanced software applications. Its establishment also marks a step in implementing Odisha’s dedicated GCC policy, which aims to attract investments and develop regional technology hubs.
As the energy industry increasingly adopts digital tools, Tata Power’s new center could help the company build solutions for changing operational needs while adding skilled employment opportunities in Odisha.
