India and the United Arab Emirates are set to sign two important India-UAE energy pacts during Prime Minister Narendra Modi UAE visit, aimed at boosting LPG supply and strengthening strategic oil reserves. The agreements are expected to improve India energy security at a time when global oil markets remain unstable due to geopolitical tensions and concerns over disruptions in key shipping routes.
According to officials familiar with the discussions, one agreement will focus on ensuring stable liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) supplies from the UAE to India, while the second will strengthen cooperation on strategic crude oil storage. The UAE has become one of India’s most dependable energy partners, supplying a significant share of the country’s LPG and crude oil needs.
The visit highlights the growing strategic relationship between India and the UAE, especially in the energy sector. As India depends heavily on imports to meet its fuel requirements, securing long-term partnerships with trusted suppliers has become increasingly important. Officials believe these agreements will help India prepare better for any future disruptions in global energy supplies.

The talks are taking place at a time when international oil markets are facing uncertainty due to rising tensions in West Asia and concerns surrounding the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s busiest oil transit routes. Any disruption in the region can directly impact oil-importing countries like India by increasing fuel prices and affecting supply chains.
India currently imports nearly 40 per cent of its LPG requirements from the UAE, making it India’s largest LPG supplier. The UAE is also among India’s leading crude oil suppliers and an important partner in liquefied natural gas (LNG exports). Over the past few years, Indian energy companies and Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) have strengthened cooperation through several long-term agreements.
One of the proposed pacts is expected to involve Indian Oil Corporation and ADNOC working together to secure long-term LPG supplies. Another agreement is likely to expand cooperation between Indian Strategic Petroleum Reserves Limited (ISPRL) and ADNOC on crude oil storage facilities in India. ADNOC already stores millions of barrels of crude oil at India’s strategic petroleum reserve facility in Mangaluru under an earlier agreement.
Apart from energy cooperation, Prime Minister Modi and UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan are also expected to discuss trade, investment, technology and regional security. Bilateral trade between India and the UAE has already crossed the $100 billion mark, making the UAE one of India’s most important economic partners.
Officials said the visit reflects the rapidly growing comprehensive strategic partnership between the two nations, with energy cooperation continuing to play a central role in strengthening ties between India and the UAE.
