Sterlite Technologies Ltd (STL), a major player in optical and digital solutions, is deepening its partnership with Netomnia, one of the UK’s leading alternative broadband providers. This expanded collaboration aims to bring faster, more reliable full-fibre internet to homes across the UK, meeting the growing demand for high-speed connectivity.
Through this multi-year deal, STL will provide Netomnia with advanced optical fibre cables and connectivity solutions designed for efficient Fibre to the Home (FTTH) networks.
These cables are 20% smaller than standard ones, making them easier to install while using less material and reducing environmental impact. This means lower costs for Netomnia and faster internet rollouts for customers. The technology also supports smoother cable installation, helping Netomnia expand its network more quickly.
Netomnia, which operates alongside brands like YouFibre and brsk, is building a powerful 10 Gbps XGS-PON network to handle future internet needs. It currently reaches 2.8 million homes, with 400,000 already connected, and is adding one million premises annually.
The company plans to serve three million homes by the end of 2025 and aims for five million by 2027. This partnership with STL will help Netomnia hit these targets while keeping costs down and prioritizing eco-friendly practices.
Anish Pradhan, Global Head of Optical Networking Business at STL, commented on the development: "Our deepened alliance with Netomnia underscores STL's commitment to pioneering sustainable optical innovations. By reducing deployment costs and environmental strain, we're empowering Alt-Nets like Netomnia to scale efficiently and deliver superior connectivity to millions of UK homes."
A Netomnia spokesperson added, "This partnership enhances our capital-efficient infrastructure, enabling us to meet aggressive growth targets while prioritizing eco-friendly practices."
The UK’s broadband market, worth over £10 billion, is growing rapidly, with full-fibre expected to reach half of all households by 2030. For STL, a part of the Vedanta Group, this deal strengthens its foothold in Europe, where it earns a significant chunk of its global revenue. The company recently reported a 15% jump in its optical business earnings for Q2 FY26, showing strong growth.

This partnership is a win for both companies and UK consumers. It supports Netomnia’s goal to challenge bigger players like BT Openreach while helping STL expand its global reach. As demand for reliable internet soars, this collaboration could set a new standard for building efficient, green networks.
