Rural India gains LPG parity as the government cuts the refill booking interval to 25 days for consumers across the country.
The Union Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas directs oil marketing companies to apply the same 25-day gap for both urban and rural domestic users with immediate effect.
This ends the earlier differential system that forced rural households to wait longer. Union Minister of State Suresh Gopi confirms the change, noting that supply pressure has eased and refill backlogs have fallen considerably. The move restores equal access and improves convenience for millions of rural LPG consumers.
The Ministry issues a letter on September 7, 2026, instructing Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) to implement a uniform 25-day inter-refill booking interval for all domestic LPG consumers. The directive takes effect immediately and covers both urban and rural areas without distinction.
Union Minister of State for Petroleum, Natural Gas and Tourism Suresh Gopi shares the development publicly and circulates a copy of the Ministry’s letter. He states that the Central Government has asked the oil marketing companies to enforce the revised uniform interval at once.
Earlier measures had set different timelines. During the outbreak of conflict in West Asia in February 2026, the Ministry prescribed a 25-day booking interval for urban consumers and a 45-day interval for rural consumers. Authorities introduced this temporary step to manage demand amid supply pressure.
Key reasons for the current revision include:
With supply conditions improving, the Ministry reverts to a single 25-day booking gap for every domestic consumer, regardless of location.

Rural households previously faced a longer wait of 45 days between bookings. The new uniform rule brings them on par with urban users and shortens the interval by 20 days. This change improves access, reduces inconvenience, and supports consistent availability of cooking fuel in rural areas.
Oil marketing companies must now apply the 25-day interval nationwide. The Ministry’s directive leaves no scope for regional variation, ensuring that rural India receives the same refill frequency as urban centers. The decision reflects improved supply chain management and prioritizes equal treatment for all domestic LPG consumers.
