The government has released the 21st instalment of the PM‑KISAN scheme, as announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi from Coimbatore, with nearly 9 crore farmers set to receive approximately ₹18,000 crore via direct benefit transfer.
Launched in February 2019, the PM-KISAN scheme provides eligible land-holding farmer families with an annual support of ₹6,000, paid in three equal installments of ₹2,000 each.
The latest instalment marks a major milestone in the government’s efforts to shore up agricultural incomes and simplify transfers through Aadhaar-seeded bank accounts.

From an industry perspective, this boost in farm liquidity is significant. With cash reaching the accounts of farming households, spending on inputs, seeds, fertilisers and allied agriculture services is likely to increase. The infusion also supports rural demand, which has knock-on effects for agro-equipment, supply‐chain firms and input manufacturers.
However, industry watchers note that not all eligible farmers will receive the instalment immediately. Delays are being reported for those whose eKYC, bank-Aadhaar link or land-records are pending. The agriculture ministry has flagged issues such as post-Feb 2019 land acquisitions, multiple claims from a household and incomplete verification as major bottlenecks.
To maintain seamless rollout across states, observables such as beneficiary registration updates, portal management and direct transfer systems will be critical. The 21st instalment under PM-KISAN therefore not only strengthens individual farmer incomes but also serves as a barometer for how effectively government-industry-farmer links are functioning in the agriculture ecosystem.
