To help India move toward electric vehicles, Maruti Suzuki India has introduced thorough expert-led training on high-voltage systems used in electric and hybrid vehicles. At the same time, the auto industry faces rapid change to electric vehicles which makes having skilled workers more important than ever.
The project started in 130 Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) found in 24 states and four Union Territories. The country’s leading carmaker said that this project will contribute to faster adoption of EVs by making sure the next generation of automotive professionals can work efficiently and safely around high-voltage electric systems.
Key highlights:
The initiative by Maruti Suzuki was launched after it invested ₹3.9 crore to resolve one of the major industry challenges—after-sales support for EVs. “We want to maximise adoption of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) in the country. When we researched the reasons for low adoption of EVs, one of the major hurdles in the minds of the customers was confidence in after-sales support,” said Rahul Bharti, Senior Executive Officer, Corporate Affairs, Maruti Suzuki India.

The training program is expected to benefit over 4,100 students annually. “At the end of the course, these trained technicians are free to join Maruti Suzuki service network or any other OEM,” Bharti added. The initiative precedes the anticipated launch of Maruti Suzuki’s first electric vehicle, the e-Vitara, slated for September, with a significant share of its production targeted for global markets.
