India and Singapore have established a comprehensive roadmap to enhance their strategic partnership, as announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday following bilateral discussions with his Singaporean counterpart, Lawrence Wong, in New Delhi.
Wong, who is currently on a three-day official visit to India, met with PM Modi at Hyderabad House for extensive discussions that encompassed both traditional and emerging areas of collaboration. During a joint press conference, PM Modi stated that both parties had pinpointed new opportunities for cooperation beyond conventional sectors, which include advanced manufacturing, civil nuclear energy, skills development, and urban water management.

“We have decided that, in order to accelerate mutual trade, the bilateral Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement and our Free Trade Agreement with ASEAN will be reviewed in a time-bound manner,” PM Modi said.
He emphasized that innovation is a fundamental aspect of the partnership, declaring collaboration in artificial intelligence, quantum computing, and various other digital technologies. Furthermore, he mentioned that Singapore will support the establishment of a National Centre of Excellence for Skilling in Chennai, aimed at training personnel in advanced manufacturing.
“In a world marked by great uncertainty and turbulence, the partnership between India and Singapore becomes even more important because this is a partnership rooted in shared values, mutual respect and a deep reservoir of trust,” he said.
