The government’s proposed rural industry push, boost jobs and growth, and strengthen India’s village economy is expected to improve local manufacturing, support rural businesses, and create sustainable employment opportunities across the country.
The Centre is considering a new flagship initiative called Rural Prosperity and Rural Resilience (RPRP), aimed at building a stronger rural industrial ecosystem through better market access, enterprise development, and industry partnerships.
Speaking at an industry event in New Delhi, Ministry of Rural Development, Secretary Rohit Kansal said the programme is designed to shift rural development from a welfare-focused approach to a growth-driven economic model. The initiative aims to bring industries, local enterprises, producer groups, and digital platforms together to create stronger economic activity in rural areas.
Under the proposed framework, the government wants to encourage companies to invest in rural supply chains, distributed manufacturing, skilling programmes, and digital commerce networks. Officials believe rural India has the potential to become not only a large consumer market but also a major production and supply hub for businesses looking to expand beyond urban centres.

The initiative comes as the government increases its focus on rural employment, economic resilience, and village-based enterprise development. Several recent policy measures, including expanded support for MSMEs, rural livelihood programmes, and infrastructure projects, reflect the Centre’s larger strategy of strengthening grassroots economic growth and creating more opportunities in non-urban regions.
According to officials, the RPRP programme will integrate key areas such as livelihoods, enterprise development, skill training, financial inclusion, digital systems, and local production networks into a single platform. The scheme is also expected to give special importance to women-led businesses, self-help groups, and community-based enterprises.
The government has already allocated nearly ₹1.94 lakh crore for rural development schemes in the current financial year, underlining its commitment to improving infrastructure, employment generation, and economic development in villages.
Industry experts believe the proposed programme could help improve supply chain resilience, support small businesses, strengthen rural manufacturing, and create long-term income opportunities for millions of people. Business bodies have also welcomed the move, saying stronger rural industrial integration can play an important role in achieving balanced and inclusive economic growth across India.
