Brazilian aerospace giant Embraer is set to significantly ramp up its commercial jet production, targeting an increase from 73 planes annually to 120, as airlines worldwide seek alternatives to the Boeing-Airbus duopoly. Embraer, the world’s third-largest aircraft manufacturer, specializes in regional jets with capacities ranging from 50 to 132 seats. This expansion comes as part of the company’s strategy to meet growing demand and capture a larger share of the global aviation market.
Embraer’s CEO, Francisco Gomes Neto, spilled the beans: they’re on track to deliver 75 to 80 jets this year, with dreams of hitting 110 to 120 annually soon. There’s even buzz about a shiny new plane—maybe a narrow-body to take on the Airbus A320 or Boeing 737. Still under wraps, but it’s got folks curious.
Embraer’s eyeing it big time. Neto said they’d consider building a final assembly line here, but only if Indian airlines order enough jets to justify it. “We’re all in, but we need the numbers to add up,” he explained. Nearly 50 Embraer jets already zip across India, with Star Air flying their E175 and ERJ145 models. And with a new Delhi office, Embraer’s planting firm roots.
Big names like United Airlines’ CEO Scott Kirby are cheering for more players in aviation, tired of the Boeing-Airbus duo calling the shots. Embraer’s E2 jets, especially the E195-E2, could be a game-changer for India’s quieter routes, keeping fares low and flights comfy. Plus, Embraer’s partnering with Mahindra Defence Systems to pitch for the Indian Air Force’s Medium Transport Aircraft deal, doubling down on India’s defense scene.

Even with supply chain headaches from the pandemic, Embraer’s bold vision to build more jets and cozy up to India could shake up the skies.
