In a landmark move to position Uttar Pradesh as a hub of agritech innovation and digital excellence, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and World Bank President Ajay Banga jointly launched the ₹4,000-crore ‘UP-AGRIS’ and ‘AI Pragya’ initiatives. These initiatives mark a significant step in transforming the state into a more advanced, future-ready economy, directly aligning with India’s trillion-dollar growth vision.
The UP-AGRIS project will integrate cutting-edge technology in agriculture across 21 districts of eastern UP and seven in Bundelkhand. With support from the World Bank—providing ₹2,737 crore over six years at a 1.23% interest rate—this project is set to benefit 10 lakh farmers, 10,000 women producer groups, and numerous agri-MSMEs. It also plans to send 500 farmers abroad to study global best practices.
"Uttar Pradesh is now recognised globally as a growth engine of India and not a barrier to progress," Adityanath said at the launch. He thanked the World Bank for its partnership in enhancing agricultural productivity and rural empowerment.
Concurrently, the ‘AI Pragya’ programme will train 10 lakh youth in high demand AI skills like machine learning, data analytics and cybersecurity which will create powerful tech-driven employment ecosystem in the fields of education, health, agriculture and governance.
World Bank Vice President Auguste Tano Kouame and India Director John Roome featured on the occasion of its launch, thus, indicating the worldwide trust on the Uttar Pradesh’s developmental path. The Chief Minister also announced a forthcoming ‘CM Nutrition Mission’ for children and a study visit to Indonesia for implementation strategies.
