Tata Motors has been able to win bids to supply more than 5,000 buses and chassis to state transport undertakings (STUs) in India, in a major boost to the public transport industry.
The orders, which span a broad spectrum of the passenger mobility solutions offered by Tata Motors, such as Magna, Cityride, Starbus, and Starbus Prime, point to the strong presence of the company in the Indian bus-making industry.
The orders extend to Maharashtra, Gujarat, Bihar, Rajasthan, Kerala, Haryana, Telangana, North Western Karnataka Road Transport Corporation, and Chandigarh Transport Undertaking, and were won through a competitive e- bidding. It is assumed that these buses will be placed in stages, as per the needs of the corresponding state transport undertakings.

Tata Motors has pointed out that the buses and chassis are designed to suit different tasks, such as intercity and long-haul buses and intracity. These buses are designed to give good performance in reliability, increased comfort among passengers and economical operations that meet various duty cycles in various urban and rural settings.

The milestone order highlights the fact that Tata Motors is at the forefront of the current changes in the people transportation industry in India and its critical contribution to the current movement in the country towards enhanced, sustainable modes of transport.
