Suzlon has secured a 248.5 MW wind order from the ArcelorMittal Group, marking its first deal with the global steelmaker and reinforcing its role in India’s shift to cleaner energy. The win comes as part of a 550 MW hybrid renewable energy project in Bachau, Gujarat, where Suzlon will supply 79 S144 wind turbine generators, each rated at 3.15 MW.
The energy generated under this wind order will be used for captive power by ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel’s facilities in India, helping the steel giant cut its reliance on fossil fuels. This deal marks Suzlon’s fourth major wind order aimed at decarbonizing steel production, bringing its total contribution to approximately 1,156 MW of green steel capacity in India.

Suzlon remains the largest wind energy player in Gujarat with an installed base of around 4.5 GW, a position strengthened by this latest contract. Company leaders say the order underscores a broader trend of heavy industries turning to renewable sources to meet sustainability targets. Girish Tanti, Vice Chairman of the Suzlon Group, said, “As the sector accelerates its journey toward decarbonization, renewable energy has become a competitive and viable contributor.”
For ArcelorMittal, the project aligns with its clean energy strategy for Indian operations as it works to lower emissions and improve cost competitiveness in its steelmaking business. Suzlon’s focus on expanding its engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) capacity is also expected to grow, potentially making up a larger share of its order book in the coming years.
