ISGEC Heavy Engineering Ltd has signed a strategic memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Nigeria’s National Sugar Development Council (NSDC) to support the Nigeria sugar industry and accelerate its modernization.
The agreement focuses on providing engineering services and technical expertise to help Nigeria expand its sugar production Nigeria capacity and reduce dependence on imports. This move is part of Nigeria’s broader push toward agro-industrial growth and improving self-sufficiency in key commodities.
Under the MoU, ISGEC Heavy Engineering will support both greenfield projects and brownfield projects. Its scope includes feasibility studies, engineering design, cost estimation, asset evaluation, and training support for plant operations. The goal is to strengthen sugar plant development, improve efficiency, and ensure smoother execution across projects.

For Nigeria, this NSDC partnership brings global expertise that can help bridge gaps in industrial infrastructure and technical capabilities. The NSDC, which oversees sector development, is expected to use this technical collaboration to speed up ongoing and planned initiatives under its national sugar development plan.
From ISGEC’s perspective, the deal opens doors for Africa market expansion, allowing the company to grow its presence in emerging regions. With its experience in large-scale industrial solutions, ISGEC is well-positioned to support the country’s evolving agro-processing ecosystem.
Industry experts say such partnerships are critical for developing economies, as they combine local policy direction with global execution strength. This helps improve efficiency, attract investments, and build long-term capacity.
Overall, the MoU positions ISGEC as a key player in Nigeria’s sugar sector transformation while reinforcing stronger economic ties between India and Nigeria.
