The government is set to introduce, for the first time, specific provisions for underground coal gasification within the auction framework during the forthcoming 14th round of mine sales, aiming to gasify 100 million tons of coal by 2030 to lessen reliance on fossil fuels.
Underground Coal Gasification (UCG) will utilize the resources of the country's deep-seated coal reserves, which are otherwise unmineable through traditional methods.
The 14th round of commercial coal mine auctions is scheduled to commence on Wednesday.
This groundbreaking initiative is anticipated to decrease dependence on imported natural gas and crude oil while opening new opportunities for investment, technological progress, and job creation across related sectors.
