In a significant endorsement of India's Make in India defence initiative, Brazil has shown a strong interest in acquiring the Garuda 105 v2 artillery system by Kalyani Strategic Systems, Bharat Forge's subsidiary.
This interest from Brazil is before the weapon's formal induction into the Indian Army, representing a defining moment in India's emerging role as a defence exporter.
The Garuda 105 v2 weighs only 900 kg and has the latest features of a lightweight 4x4 mobile gun system. It features a hybrid recoil mechanism and a high-strength aluminium alloy, enabling it to fire rocket-assisted projectiles to 19.5 km. Its mobility, accuracy, and deployability are perfectly suited for high-altitude and inaccessible terrains, giving the Gun System a significant tactical advantage.
This development indicates growing confidence in India's indigenous defence manufacturing capabilities. There are discussions between Indian and Brazilian officials about transfer of technology and joint manufacturing capabilities that align with the aims of the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative.

Brazil's interest aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Brazil for the BRICS Summit from July 5-8, thus allowing an opportunity for greater bilateral defence cooperation and trade. The move underlines the expanding global footprint of Indian defence products in competitive international markets.
