Astra Microwave JV Wins Rs 250.58 Crore HAL Order for SDR Systems

Astra Microwave Products Ltd’s joint venture, Astra Rafael Comsys Pvt Ltd, has clinched a major Rs 250.58 crore contract from Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) for high‑tech software‑defined radio (SDR) systems, underscoring a fresh push in India’s defense communications sector.

Astra Microwave JV will deliver advanced SDR solutions to HAL’s Bengaluru operations, with the order to be executed over the next 18 months.

HAL, India’s premier aerospace and defense manufacturer, awarded the deal on April 1, 2026. The contract calls for the supply of modular, software‑centric radios that replace traditional hardware with programmable software components, boosting flexibility and secure communication for military platforms.

This marks a strategic win for Astra Rafael Comsys, a JV formed as part of the broader Make in India defense initiative to strengthen domestic capabilities in critical systems.  Under the terms, Astra Microwave Products Ltd will receive a share of the business from this HAL award through its joint venture, enhancing its revenue outlook for the year ahead.

The SDR systems covered by the order are key parts of modern defense communication infrastructure, designed to adapt quickly to changing battlefield requirements without hardware changes.

Market response was positive after the announcement, with Astra Microwave’s shares rising as investors reacted to the defense order. Industry analysts see this contract as further validation of the company’s role in supplying advanced radios and other electronic systems to public sector defense units.

This deal comes at a time when HAL itself reported strong revenue performance and a growing order book, highlighting increased domestic demand for aerospace and defense products.
