As part of the “Make in India” initiative, the Marhowrah Diesel Locomotive Factory in Bihar will be exporting 150 high-power Evolution Series ES43ACmi locomotives to Guinea for their Simandou iron ore project.
The locomotives, which are being manufactured in collaboration with Wabtec, comprise over ₹3,000 crore in value from the landmark export deal, and is a vital step for India’s railway manufacturing sector in the international marketplace.
37 locomotives will be exported this year, 82 in the next year, and 31 in the third year. These 4500 HP locomotives include, but are not limited to, advanced AC propulsion systems, regenerative braking, and a modular design. They also have class-leading controls for emissions, fire and smoke detection, the crew cabins, with ergonomic design and modern features like refrigerators, microwaves and waterless toilets.
These locomotives have a single cab, two locomotive units will decouple at maximum permissible speed of 100 wagon trains. The Marhowrah factory has the tracks for broad gauge, standard gauge, and Cape gauge so that it can cater to other international markets. The project was awarded to India through global competitive bidding, it showcases India's reliability through exporting and deepens the engagement with the African economy.
