Tata Power is enhancing transmission infrastructure in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region through its Rs 15,000 crore Mumbai Grid Upgradation and Expansion Plan. The company upgrades its existing 110 kV and 220 kV networks and augments both transformation and transmission capacities.
It also develops new receiving stations and advances a 400 kV transmission ring network. These steps create a resilient, secure, and future-ready grid with robust network redundancy.
The upgraded system ensures reliable and uninterrupted power for large-scale digital infrastructure projects in the region. The expansion directly addresses the rapidly growing power needs of hyperscale data centers concentrated in Mumbai.
India continues to strengthen its position as a global AI and digital infrastructure hub. Energy availability remains a critical enabler for this growth.
The Ministry of Power, citing Central Electricity Authority estimates, projects that AI-led data centers could add approximately 26.3 GW of electricity demand by FY 2031-32.
Tata Power’s pipeline and Mumbai grid investments align with this outlook. The company’s presence across generation, transmission and distribution equips it to deliver the integrated energy infrastructure required.
Combining green energy capacity, transmission upgrades and end-to-end solutions, Tata Power supports the next wave of data center development and helps meet the rising electricity demand driven by AI, cloud and digital platforms.
