Rolls-Royce, a major in the aerospace industry, on Thursday said it is seeking a possibility to develop Maintenance, Repairs and overhaul (MRO) capability in India to service its AE2100 engines that are used on aircraft flown by the Indian Air Force. The decision is proposed to strengthen and maintain the fleet and comply with the India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) and the UK-India Vision 2035 road map.
Rolls-Royce is looking to ramp up its aerospace and defence engagements with India following the CETA coming into effect. Abhishek Singh, Senior Vice President – Defence (India and South-East Asia), said it wants to enhance its in-country capability in parallel with the framework for bilateral cooperation.
"We are looking into possible opportunities to set up an MRO for the AE2100 engine that is being operated by the Indian Air Force, and to further enhance the partnership for assembly and testing for the MTA (multi-role transport aircraft) programme," Singh stated. He stressed that Rolls-Royce see's India not just as a growth market, but as an important strategic partner for co-development, innovation, and capability building.
