Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has won a key defense supply order from the Indian Army’s Corps of Electronics and Mechanical Engineers (EME) for the overhaul, upgrade and obsolescence management of the indigenous Pinaka Multi-Rocket Launcher Systems, a move aimed at boosting the combat readiness and lifecycle support of India’s frontline artillery.
The program focuses on replacing outdated components, upgrading critical sub-systems and delivering sustained technical support to Army Base Workshops to improve the long-term operational availability and modernization of Pinaka regiments currently deployed with the Indian Army.
It marks a rare partnership between a domestic private original equipment manufacturer (OEM) and the Indian Army for systems that are already in active service.

Highlighting the significance of the initiative, the company stated, “L&T is a long-standing development partner to the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) and the Indian Army for the design and supply of the Pinaka artillery systems. This latest partnership between the Indian Army and L&T is a paradigm shift in sustenance of defense systems, showcasing closer industry-Indian Army collaboration,” L&T said in its release.
Under the collaboration, the 510 Army Base Workshop (ABW) of the Corps of EME will carry out the overhaul and upgrade of critical electronics and systems, drawing on its in-house expertise, while L&T will supply critical spares and support modernization of sub-systems.
In the pilot phase, both sides will jointly overhaul a Pinaka Launcher and a Battery Command Post. The company said, “This model is expected to serve as a blueprint for similar lifecycle management and upgrade programs across other defense platforms, strengthening India’s self reliant and future-ready defense ecosystem.”
