Adani Green has set a new renewable energy record by crossing the 20 GW milestone, becoming the first company in India to achieve the feat through greenfield development.
The landmark achievement highlights the company's rapid expansion in the country's clean energy sector. Adani Green said its operational portfolio now generates more than 52 billion units of clean electricity every year, accounting for nearly 3 percent of India's total electricity consumption.
Within the first 100 words, the 20 GW milestone stands out as one of the biggest achievements in India's renewable energy journey.
The company achieved the milestone within a decade of commissioning its first renewable energy project at Kamuthi in Tamil Nadu in 2016. Over the past 10 years, Adani Green has emerged as India's largest and fastest-growing greenfield renewable energy company.
In FY26 alone, the company added 5,051 megawatts (MW) of renewable energy capacity. According to the company, this is the highest annual renewable energy capacity addition by any company outside China.
The company said its clean electricity generation of more than 52 billion units annually is enough to:
Sagar Adani, Executive Director, Adani Green Energy Ltd (AGEL), said, "Surpassing 20 GW demonstrates what disciplined execution and long-term vision can achieve. Today, AGEL, along with our efficient team and longstanding partners, delivers renewable electricity almost equivalent to the annual power requirement of Mumbai and New Delhi combined, reinforcing the country's energy security while accelerating its clean energy transition."

Apart from renewable generation, Adani Green has also commissioned 3.55 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). The company said this is the world's largest battery storage deployment outside China and one of the fastest executed globally.
The company believes battery storage will play a key role as renewable energy accounts for a larger share of India's electricity mix. Storage systems help supply clean power even when solar and wind generation fluctuate, improving grid reliability.
Looking ahead, Adani Green plans to add 10 GWh of battery storage during FY27. It also aims to expand its battery storage portfolio to 50 GWh over the next five years.
The expansion is expected to support the company's target of achieving 50 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030, making it one of the world's leading clean energy developers.
Key highlights of the announcement include:
