Ericsson, a major Swedish telecom company, has made known its intentions to produce all the telecom hardware needed for their Indian market locally, their next-generation 6G technology.
With this decision, India’s ‘Make in India’ project gets doubled and the country is already showing signs of becoming a solid and more advanced telecom manufacturing hub.
On the sidelines of India Mobile Congress 2025, Andres Vicente, Head of Market Area Southeast Asia, Oceania and India at Ericsson, stated, “Our plan is to produce in India whatever we sell in India.” With this statement, the company indicated that it plans to have local production, R&D, and technology innovation.
Moreover, Ericsson, a significant contributor to the 4G and 5G ecosystem in the Indian subcontinent, intends to carry out 6G trials by 2028 and commercial use by the early 2030s. Their program is consistent with the DoT’s (Department of Telecommunications) plans to accelerate the native adoption of 6G in India.

As of now, through Flex, a manufacturing plant in Pune, Ericsson is producing 4G and 5G radio equipment. The company wants to increase local production to cover not only core network systems but also 6G-ready infrastructure that will serve India’s digital and technological self-reliance.
The decision is expected to contribute to the development of the Indian telecom manufacturing ecosystem, the creation of high-skilled jobs, and the attraction of capital in semiconductors, electronics, and R&D.
