As the leading state in India for the installation of renewable energy, Gujarat has made significant strides toward the national goal set by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to achieve net zero by 2070.
The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) reports that as of April 30, 2025, Gujarat's installed renewable energy capacity totals 35.16 GW. The state's strong commitment for development projects towards sustainability and green growth is demonstrated by this milestone.
Gujarat, led by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, is the state with the highest installed renewable energy capacity (35.16 GW), the largest installed wind power capacity (13.51 GW), the second-largest installed solar power capacity (19.42 GW), and the largest rooftop solar installation (5.31 GW). Gujarat also accounts for 15.72 percent of India's total installed renewable energy capacity.
Wind, solar, small and large hydropower, and biofuels are all part of Gujarat's varied RE mix. Wind accounts for 13,514.68 MW of the total 35.16 GW capacity, solar for 19,421.8 MW, small hydro for 106.64 MW, large hydro for 1,990 MW, and biopower for 129.85 MW.Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL) is playing a pivotal role in advancing energy storage solutions and promoting seamless integration of renewable energy into the grid. GUVNL has already secured agreements for Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) with a cumulative capacity of 1,192 MW / 4,777 MWh. The state is also exploring Pumped Storage Projects with an estimated potential of over 32 GW.
