Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Gujarat on May 26 and 27, where he will inaugurate India’s first 9,000 horsepower locomotive engine manufacturing plant in Dahod, a landmark project under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model with an investment of Rs 20,000 crore. The facility, established in collaboration with Siemens India, is poised to produce 1,200 high-power electric locomotives over the next decade, strengthening India’s position in global rail manufacturing under the ‘Make in India’ initiative.
The Dahod facility, built on the site of a century-old railway workshop, will produce 9,000 horsepower engines that can haul 4,600 tonnes of cargo at speeds up to 75 kmph. These engines aren’t just powerful—they’ll have top-notch safety systems, air-conditioned cabins for drivers, and even restrooms, making them some of the most advanced in India. Four engines are already in the final stages, each proudly marked “Made in Dahod.”
Key Highlights:
The project is set to create around 10,000 jobs, from factory workers to small businesses in the area, giving a big lift to the local economy. While in Gujarat, PM Modi will connect with people at events in Gandhinagar, Kutch, and Dahod. On May 26, he’ll speak at a rally on Bhuj-Mirzapar Road and visit the Ashapura Mata Temple in Kutch. On May 27, he’ll attend a big event at the Mahatma Gandhi Convention Centre in Gandhinagar, where he’ll launch several new development projects.

The factory is part of the Smart Cities Mission and aims to make India a global leader in rail manufacturing, with plans to export engines worldwide. But as Dahod grows, locals are asking for better schools, hospitals, and infrastructure to match the area’s rapid progress. This new plant is a bold step toward modernizing Indian Railways, creating jobs, and showing off India’s engineering talent to the world.
