Loop Industries, a leader in clean technology innovation, has made an important step forward in its expansion to India by acquiring land in Gujarat for its first Infinite Loop manufacturing facility.
The site, measuring 93 acres and located near Surat, the synthetic textile capital of India, allows Loop to optimize the available polyester textile waste and increase the availability of sustainable PET.
The land is located within the Petroleum, Chemicals and Petrochemicals Investment Region (PCPIR) which affords Loop direct access to petrochemical professionals, expedited permitting, and proximity to a deep-water seaport, simplifying how products will be exported globally.
The land was purchased for USD 10.5 million which has contributed to a reduction in estimated initial capital costs for the project by USD 5 million, bringing the estimated capital investment to USD 171 million as outlined in the August 2022 Scoping Report by Tata Consulting Engineers. Loop Industries has made an initial deposit of USD 1.7 million on the land purchase.

Gujarat's Infinite Loop plant will produce 70,000 megatons of PET resin in its first phase, and will possibly increase capacity to 170,000 metric tons for increasing domestic and international consumption. The facility will operate on 80 percent renewable electric and renewable bio-fuel which will deliver approximately 80 percent lower carbon emissions than traditional petroleum-based PET.
“Securing this site in Gujarat marks a foundational step in bringing Infinite Loop technology to India,” said Adel Essaddam, COO of Loop Industries. Permits should be done by the end of 2025 and construction will then begin. A project like this is paramount in India's efforts to transition to a circular economy in plastics.
