SAEL Industries has begun work on an 8,200 crore solar plant in Jewar, which is likely to boost Indian exports and create immense job opportunities.
The project aims to develop manufacturing capacity of 5 GW for solar cells and 5 GW for solar modules.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced that the upcoming solar project will have a significant impact in strengthening India's export capability, thereby advancing the vision of self-reliant India.
The Chief Minister further said that the project aims to build a large-scale production capacity in the renewable energy sector. India currently imports the required solar components, particularly from China.
A large-scale manufacturing facility like this can reduce dependence on imports and build a sufficient solar supply chain. India has also set ambitious clean energy targets.
Therefore, increasing the domestic production of solar is crucial for installing more solar power plants that will reduce India's dependence on foreign suppliers. The project also aligns with Uttar Pradesh's goal of expanding renewable energy capacity.
Jewar is emerging as an industrial and infrastructural hub, with the upcoming electronic manufacturing, airport, and other industrial projects. These solar manufacturing plants being added could also attract investments, thereby turning it into a significant manufacturing cluster.

According to SAEL, this project aims to create 20,000 direct and indirect job opportunities, which were also announced by the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh. Along with Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME), logistics, and ancillary industries, engineers and technicians are also likely to get opportunities to work in the field.
This will further boost the regional economy through ancillary industries and infrastructural development. It is also reported that once the construction is done, high-efficiency solar cells and TOPCon will be manufactured using advanced technology.
That is, in turn, capable of meeting the rapidly growing requirements of India’s renewable energy sector. The Director and Co-founder, Sukhbir Singh, states that the company will establish 5 GW of solar and 5 GW of solar modules with an initial investment of 8,200 crores.
He also adds that this is not only an investment in manufacturing but a crucial investment that leads India towards energy self-reliance.
SAEL is one of India’s leading companies in the renewable energy sector, which specialises in solar power generation, waste-to-energy projects, and solar module manufacturing as well. This privately held company is headquartered in New Delhi.
This firm also appears to be India’s largest agro-waste-to-energy operator, which primarily focuses on converting agricultural waste or residue into clean energy. That will also help in reducing carbon footprints and provide base-load power.
