Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has secured a major win after it bags Rs 13,500 crore NTPC thermal power project in Telangana, marking one of its largest recent contracts and reinforcing its position in India’s power equipment sector.
The order, awarded by NTPC Limited, involves setting up a 3x800 MW supercritical thermal power project in the Peddapalli district. With a total capacity of 2,400 MW, the project is expected to play a key role in meeting the country’s rising electricity demand.
Under the agreement, BHEL will handle the complete scope of work, including design, engineering, manufacturing, supply, installation, testing, and commissioning of the main plant package. This covers critical components such as boilers, turbines, and generators, along with civil and structural works.

The BHEL bags Rs 13,500 crore NTPC order development significantly boosts the company’s order book, improving revenue visibility over the next few years. The project is scheduled to be completed within 62 months, aligning with India’s ongoing push to expand its base-load power capacity.
This contract also highlights the continued importance of thermal power in India’s energy mix, even as the country accelerates its transition toward renewable energy sources. Supercritical technology used in the project offers higher efficiency and lower emissions compared to older coal-based plants.
For BHEL, this win strengthens its foothold in large-scale power projects, while for NTPC, it ensures progress on critical infrastructure needed to support long-term energy demand.
