Adani's new missile plant has marked a major step for India's defence manufacturing sector as the foundation stone for the Rs 2,500 crore project was laid in Shivpuri, Madhya Pradesh.
The missile plant, being developed by Adani Defence and Aerospace, is expected to strengthen the country's push for Atmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India while creating thousands of jobs and boosting local industries.
The project was inaugurated on Sunday by Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia.
The event was also attended by Karan Adani and Jeet Adani, who highlighted the company's plans to expand India's indigenous defence manufacturing capabilities.
The upcoming defence manufacturing plant will include a missile complex, a composite propellant complex, and a TNT complex. These facilities will support the production of medium- to long-range missile systems and reduce India's dependence on imported defence equipment.
Speaking at the event, Adani Airport Holdings Limited (AAHL) Director Jeet Adani said, "In the defence and aerospace sector, we are promoting indigenisation, working closely with the DRDO and the Armed Forces to systematically reverse India’s dependency on imports. Gwalior gave MP its first exposure to serious defence manufacturing. Today, that complex manufactures our entire portfolio of Light Machine Guns, Assault Rifles and Carbines.”
“Our Light Machine Guns (LMG) programme alone has already delivered 2,000 units to the Armed Forces, 11 months ahead of schedule. Shivpuri is the next giant leap in that journey as we bring a full-range, integrated missile ecosystem to manufacture medium- to long-range missile systems, replacing foreign dependency with domestic power...,” he added.
The company plans to complete the project over the next three years with an investment of Rs 2,500 crore. The project is expected to create around 5,000 direct and indirect jobs, including employment opportunities for local residents.
Jeet Adani also said more than 50 MSMEs will become part of the specialized defence manufacturing supply chain, helping strengthen the local industrial ecosystem.
He further announced that the Adani Group plans to invest Rs 1.10 lakh crore in Madhya Pradesh by 2030. The investment will cover sectors such as:
The company expects these investments to generate nearly 1.2 lakh jobs across the state.

Chief Minister Mohan Yadav described July 5 as a historic day for Madhya Pradesh, saying the state will now play a bigger role in India's defence sector. He said missiles manufactured in Shivpuri would strengthen India's defence capabilities and enhance the country's security.
Yadav also highlighted the contribution of the Chambal region, saying its people have long served the nation with courage and sacrifice. He added that the new defence project would open fresh employment opportunities and help transform the Gwalior-Guna-Shivpuri region into a major industrial and defence hub.
He also noted that the Adani Group's cement factory in Guna, inaugurated recently, is already supporting industrial growth in the region.
Meanwhile, Jyotiraditya Scindia, who represents Guna in the Lok Sabha, said the foundation-laying ceremony marks the beginning of a new chapter in India's journey toward self-reliance. He said the facility will ensure that weapons and ammunition required during national emergencies are manufactured in India by Indian workers.
Scindia also praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership and credited Chief Minister Mohan Yadav for building investor confidence in the state.
During the event, the Chief Minister and the Union Minister also inaugurated and performed the groundbreaking ceremony for additional development projects worth Rs 211.29 crore.
